The Department of Physical Education & Sports GDC Baramulla was established in 1940.GDC Baramulla have contributed much to the history of sports in J & K and especially in Baramulla. There are competent, highly qualified &dedicated faculty members who gives excellent coaching and teaching to the students. Regular coaching is provided to the students inall games vizVolleyball, Football, Cricket, Badminton, Hockey, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho Yoga, Cycling and Athletics. The College cherishes a very proud tradition of sports and it can claim among its alumni sportsmen of National and State reputation .The department has produced galaxy of players at District, State and National Level.The college teams participate in all Inter College Competitions, Sports Festivals, conducted by Directorate of Physical Education University of Kashmir & other affiliated Colleges. The department has also rich experience of organizingInter College Level Sports activities.
MISSION - Message from Convener Sports :
Technology covers every aspects of life and sports are no exception to it. Sports sciences enable modern youth to develop physical capacities beyond our imagination. As great thinkers have visualized education cannot be complete unless the individual explore his/her abilities for the all round development. Sports persons have a prominent place in the society in this era. The department of physical education& Sports aim at the well being of the student to explore their talents for achieving District, State, National and All India level.So that the institution reaches its highest glory.
VISION
The vision of the Department of Physical Education& Sports is the development and promotion of sports activities for health, educational and social benefits of student community.
Accordingly, the Department has adopted the following mission:
- To provide adequate infrastructural facilities for sports and games so that students choose and participate in the events for which they have a flair.
- To spot out and groom the sports talent.
- To nurture, better human relations through sports and games
- To enjoy a perfect balance between sports performance standards and healthy lifestyle.
- To imbibe discipline, leadership qualities, courage and the sense of belonging through sports activities.
- To produce National & International players, by providing equal opportunities.
- To develop knowledge, skills and values for the enhancement of performance in a wide range of sports through inter college and inter-university forums.
SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES
The collegeprovides a state of the art sports & athleticfacilities to the college students, clubs, individuals, and other community group and has a rich legacy of upgrading such facilities from time to time. The college is spreadsover 20 acres and 40 cents of prime property in the heart of the Baramulla. The college has a vast & spacious playfield Cricket, Football, Hockey, with throwing sectors &jumping pits, Volleyball court, Basketball court, Kabaddi, Kho-Khooutsidewith lush green shade trees around the pavilion. A physical fitness centre is operational at the department in order to gear up for extensive physical activities and sports conditioning workout in the gymnasium. The centre has almost all the requisite instruments and equipment required for exercising.
Apart from the aforesaid facilities, the Department has a separate Multi Purpose Hall for Boys & Girls which is having facility of Table Tennis, Carrom, & Chess etc. and other indoor game.
EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
The Department has envisaged some extension activities other than routine work to ensure its social commitment which includes Badminton, Chess Carrom Road Race & Cycle Race and Yoga Training programme for the adopted Schools.
Snow Skiing Courseis regularly conducted at the Gulmarg every year to impart basic training and inspire students in the sports and games as a part of extension service. Basic coaching Camp under CPE is conducted for students to impart training involleyball, Football, Cricket, Hockey & Athletics. Certificates are presented to the students after successful completion of the camp.
International Yoga day is conducted by the department on June 21st every year. About 500 people participate in the yoga session.
