Department of water management is a newly introduced department in the year 2022. The aim of establishing this department with the aim to produce well qualified and well trained professionals to cater water related issues and problems. This department not only aims to excel academically but equip next generation of water professionals with a blend of skills necessary to make a significant contribution to sustainable ways of living by prioritizing water for ecosystem, food energy, economic and human growth. Water Management is a multidisciplinary course encompassing a mixture of life science, physical and social sciences. Students opting water management at under graduate level will understand the importance and relevance of water, as it is one of the basic need and indispensable to all economic activities including agriculture, energy production, industry and mining, besides need for its conservation as there are wide spread threats to this valuable resource. Students after completing course in water management will find job in state and central pollution control boards, sewage treatment plants, water testing labs, central and state ground water boards, experts in water consultancy firms, water research institutes etc.

The department is running a DST-SERB funded research project entitled " Investigation climatic and anthropogenic impact on the ground water quality of shallow aquifers along the flood plains of river jhelum, kashmir Himalaya.

OBJECTIVE

1. To promote holistic management of water resources.
2. To facilitate interdisciplinary, multi- institutional collaboration.
3. To empower students to be better stewards of local, regional, national and international water resources through water quality monitoring training.
4. To provide research based information to environmental professionals and policy makers for improved management and protection of water resource management.
